Position Summary
We are looking for a skilled Control Systems Engineer to join our Long Beach team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, programming, implementation, and commissioning of advanced control systems for refinery clients. You’ll play a key role in driving projects forward by collaborating with internal teams and client technical representatives. You’ll also provide technical leadership in control system design, development, and troubleshooting, while supporting the project manager in meeting project schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of control system strategies to optimize industrial process performance.
  • Design and specify DCS/PLC components and network requirements, develop functional narratives, system specifications, and other project documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze control system issues, providing root cause analysis and resolutions.
  • Participate in the development of logic diagrams, cause-and-effect matrices, and functional narratives.
  • Develop and review control panel designs, wiring diagrams, and other deliverables related to Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) packages.
  • Support factory acceptance testing, field start-up, and commissioning efforts, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver engineering solutions, assisting with project scheduling, reporting, and client meetings.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 5+ years of experience as a Control Systems Engineer with a strong focus on Honeywell DCS and Allen Bradley PLC systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (advanced degree or certification in Control Systems or Process Automation is a plus).
  • Expertise in Honeywell DCS platforms, such as Experion PKS or TDC 3000.
  • Strong programming skills in ladder logic, Function Block Diagrams (FBD), and Structured Text (ST).
  • Experience with system integration, including hardware components (sensors, actuators, PLCs) and communication protocols (Modbus, OPC, Ethernet/IP).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong analytical skills for optimizing control strategies.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with teams, clients, and vendors. Strong technical documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with other platforms like Triconex and Honeywell Safety Manager is a plus.
  • Adaptability and a proactive attitude in managing multiple tasks and learning new technologies.

Physical Requirements

  • Travel to local refineries and plants.
  • Walking and standing in operational units while wearing PPE.
