BURNCO is currently seeking a determined and motivated Quality Assurance Technician to join our Calgary Ready-Mix division. Reporting to the Quality Assurance Engineer, Calgary Ready Mix, this role plays a vital part in supporting the sampling, testing, and quality control of ready-mix concrete to ensure exceptional products are delivered to our customers throughout Calgary and Southern Alberta.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Perform plant and site testing of concrete
  • Communicate effectively with clients, third-party testing companies, and operations personnel
  • Troubleshoot quality issues and provide recommendations to maintain a high-quality ready-mix product
  • Observe and document placement, logistical, and curing conditions that affect product performance
  • Observe and document third-party testing procedures
  • Prepare and test concrete cylinders for compressive strength
  • Make field adjustments to concrete loads as required
  • Execute mix design adjustments as required
  • Sample and test ready-mix raw materials
  • Prepare and conduct batch trials
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Quality Assurance Engineer or Corporate Quality Assurance Manager

What We Would Like from You

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma required
  • Candidates who have or are working toward a C.E.T. designation will be given preference
  • Construction industry experience with previous knowledge of concrete testing is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of CSA A23.2:24 field testing procedures
  • CCIL and/or ACI field concrete testing certification is preferred
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (minimum) required

Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to work overtime and varying shifts, including nights and weekends, as required
  • Physically capable of working in varying weather conditions, temperatures, and performing heavy lifting up to 23 kg (50 lbs)
  • Highly motivated, disciplined, and able to take ownership of personal learning and development
