Old Dominion University’s Department of STEM Education and Professional Studies seeks applications for a full-time Lecturer (12-month appointment with opportunity for summer employment), beginning January 2019. The ideal candidate will have both teaching and industry experience in all aspects of manufacturing, construction and production to include knowledge and use of the tools of industrial technology from design to fabrication and testing, quality control, and production-to-market knowledge. Experience with instruction and application of the engineering problem solving and design process is required. In addition, maintenance of the equipment in the labs, order of supplies and enforcement of safety policies will be expected. The candidate for this position should expect to develop, revise, and teach undergraduate courses in STEM education and industrial technology, be active in international professional associations, and contribute to the university’s service mission.  The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
 
A Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is requiredIn addition to the above stated requirements, responsibilities include: (1) teaching and developing undergraduate level, face-to-face and distance-education courses in industrial technology manufacturing and the engineering problem solving and design process; (2) participating in initiatives directed toward program growth and development, and (3) work collaboratively with other faculty in the development, design, revision, and implementation of STEM courses. Experience and/or ability to work successfully with diverse populations and to prepare others to do so is highly desired. 
 
The position will be located at the Norfolk Campus. Old Dominion University is located in historic Norfolk, Virginia; the 251 acres of the Old Dominion University campus stretch from the Elizabeth River to the Lafayette River. Although situated in a metropolitan setting, the University offers a small-college look and feel, with tree-lined walkways, a mix of old and new buildings, and colorful gardens and ponds. The Department of STEM Education & Professional Studies (STEMPS) is one of six departments in the Darden College of Education and Professional Studies. The STEMPS department offers Bachelor of Science degree, Master of Science degree and Ph.D. in the areas of Occupational and Technical Studies, Library Science and Instructional and Design Training.
