Oracle Developer

Located in Sterling, Virginia, the Horizon team at Asurion is developing customized solutions in partnership with other technology teams that touch more than 18,000 customers per day in the US alone, and collaborating on cutting-edge big data platforms that provide analytics and insights that drive our business objectives. We are responsible for developing technical solutions and applications that are used by Asurion’s partners, including top-tier retailers, communication providers, and entertainment distributors.

The Oracle Database Developer is responsible for developing functional competency in analyzing and evaluating present and proposed procedures and data to design business-aligned solutions. The Oracle Database Developer works individually and as part of a team to assist with obtaining, troubleshooting, clarifying, documenting and translating detailed business rule specifications to support construction of business features with the platform. The Oracle Database Developer works directly with internal customers, vendors, and other analysts to diagnose, resolve, implement, and document appropriate solutions for a variety of technical requirements. Responsibilities also include working with technical implementation teams to ensure business requirements are fulfilled while assisting end users and development teams to establish acceptance criteria. The ideal candidate is a technically-minded self-starter who can work well under pressure and balance competing priorities in a fun, results-oriented work environment.


Designs, develops, and tests effective, maintainable, high quality SQL code in a timely fashion.

Creates processes and procedures with input from business teams, development, and IT Support.

Understands existing and target state architecture, data events, and data flows.

Adheres to established coding and architectural standards

Profiles data as input to source to target transformation rules and provide data mapping artifacts.

Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to concisely express solutions/ideas verbally or via written text and diagrams

Works with analysts, Product Owners, and Integration Testing team to ensure the delivery of quality code that meets the functional requirements

Maintains proficiency in the business processes and the systems, tools, and processes which drive the applications within the departments scope.

Model databases; develop PL-SQL scripts, stored procedures, views, triggers and other database objects.

Maintains a working knowledge of Asurion’s applications and system integration and is able to understand changes in order to anticipate cross-system or cross-process impacts.

Performs scheduled ad-hoc, and emergency tasks within the department’s scope.

Ensures the appropriate adherence to Asurion’s inter-departmental processes and procedures

Provides proper status notifications and updates

Develops automated unit test cases to validate defect-free code

Conducts code reviews with peers and management

Interprets results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining independently.

Rapidly analyzes data sets from different sources; identifies data relationships, business rules, data characteristics and business process gaps.

Qualifications and Experience:

BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance or related field required

3 plus years of experience, preferred 6, in Oracle database development for software engineering projects.

Proficient in Structured Query Language (SQL), Oracle, data mining, and pattern recognition in large datasets, including ability to develop customized queries to successfully complete tasks.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy

Strong communication skills.

Creative problem solving skills with positive, action-oriented attitude and independent thinking.

Ability to package and present analytical findings in an effective and intuitive manner which explains clearly the direction and recommendation of the information

Experience troubleshooting and solving technical problems. Ability to work independently to remove roadblocks and keep development on track.

Experience in an Agile Scrum environment

Preferred Experience

Experience in data migrations; understanding the data from legacy systems and transferring to new systems.

Experience in data analysis, data correction, and data migration

Experience with Continuous Integration and Delivery. Jenkins automation experience is a plus.

Experience creating Physical and Logical design documents
