Seeking a software engineer with expertise in programming language implementation, type systems, program analysis and/or compiler optimizations.

Our team is working on a type inference engine and an optimizing compiler for MATLAB. We are looking for people who can bring new ideas, "not invented here" techniques, and contribute to the state of the art program analysis and compiler technology that powers many products here at MathWorks.

MathWorks nurtures growth, appreciates diversity, encourages initiative, values teamwork, shares success, and rewards excellence.

You will join a small team of engineers who own the implementation of MATLAB programming language for ahead-of-time compilation. You will work on the type inference engine and the compiler core: design, implement and evolve the IR and the type system, implement new language features, add performance optimizations, find new ways to integrate MATLAB programming language with other environments (Python, C++, Docker, JS).

As a compiler engineer, you will have a chance to influence the core design decisions of the compiler architecture, help to evolve the MATLAB programming language itself to be more suitable for embedded system development.

As a senior member of the team, you will have opportunities to mentor and onboard junior colleagues, create and enhance our software development processes, interact with external an internal customers to understand their requirements, and work with teams that want to leverage the compiler technology in other products.

For recent graduates, an advanced compiler design course is a requirement.

Strongly desired:

  • Exposure to compiler development, IR design, type systems, program analysis
  • Experience working with/in multiple programming languages
  • Exposure to functional programming languages
  • A bachelor's degree and 5 years of professional work experience (or a master's degree, or equivalent experience) is required.
